Sinus Surgery (FESS)
Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery
Functional Endoscopic Sinus surgery (FESS) is minimally invasive surgery performed through the nostrils using endoscopes and specially designed instruments including mechanical shavers and, if appropriate, special balloons to widen the sinus drainage channels.
The operation is performed up inside the nose through the nostrils, under general anaesthetic. There are no scars on the face. The aim of the operation is to open the sinus drainage channels and so restore the normal function of the nasal lining.
This is achieved by removing bone and inflamed lining of the sinus drainage pathways. These minute passages tend to stick together with long standing allergy or infection in the nose and sinuses. If there is any nasal polyps that can be removed at the same time.
Septoplasty Surgery
Septoplasty
The nasal septum is the partition dividing it into the right and left sides on the inside of the nose. It is made up of hard bone at the back, and flexible cartilage at the front towards the tip.
Septoplasty is an operation on the inside of the nose to straighten the septum, which will improve the breathing through your nose.
What is the aim of Septoplasty?
Breathing through the nose is improved by straightening the nasal septum, without changing the appearance of the nose on the outside. By unblocking the nose, Septoplasty may improve snoring. If the nose is twisted on the outside as well as the bend in the nasal septum on the inside of your nose, the nasal bones may be reset via a septo-rhinoplasty to improve the outlook.
